| I
started my musical career in Lafayette when I
was 9 years old. My uncle, Phillip Laperouse took
me to a guitar class he was teaching in Lafayette
and showed me a couple of chords in the back room
in between his regular students. After a a couple
of minutes, I was so into it, that he had to calm
me down. I was drowning out the teaching session
in another class. That was it, I was hooked! We
moved to St. Martinville when I was 10 years old,
and I started playing in the youth choir at St.
Martin De Tours Church when I turned 12 years
old. Then I started play bass guitar on a converted
6 string & played at my Uncle's house parties.
I started a small band with my Brother Russell
Castille and Jose' Lasseigne called "Sheik
& Redbone Express." We played a talent
show at a local school and that's was when I noticed
a drummer named Teddy Hebert. Not long after,
I called him and asked him if he wanted to try
to put something together. He agreed and the band
sounded great.
Along
with my Brother on bass, Teddy on drums and a
piano man named Ed Eastin, we started a band called
"Southern Hospitality." Our first gig
was a house party, and after that, we went on
to the Rec. Center in St. Martinville. Teddy's
mother had to drive us around, since we were all
still too young to drive. This went on for about
9 years and then I took a job working offshore,
so I had to stop for a while. In 1993, I started
a Choir at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Catahoula.
Later that year I bought a Melodeon (accordion
to you) from Randy Falcon and learned how to play.
At the end of 1994, I joined the Nikl Beer Band,
playing a little piano and accordion, and now
I also play guitar and bass guitar.
